Established by Prince John in 1185 at the mouth of the Colligan River, this polygonal shell keep with corner and gate towers guarded the entrance to Dungarvan town. Burned by the IRA in 1922 during the Civil War, it later served as a Garda station until 1987 before restoration for public visits.
