Built around 1780 by Sir Benjamin Chapman near Clonmellon, Killua Castle was the ancestral home of the Chapman family, one of whom, Sir Thomas Chapman, was the father of T.E. Lawrence ('Lawrence of Arabia'). Abandoned and roofless since the mid-20th century, the castellated ruin and its obelisk to Sir Walter Raleigh are undergoing partial restoration.
